My dear friend Alex is spring breaking in Copenhagen and I am wildly jealous. I wanted to make her a list of some of my favorite places to shop and I figured why not share with you, dear reader, as well.
I could window shop in Copenhagen all day long on an empty stomach in heels fueled only on the pure adrenaline of inspiration.
Nothing compares.
Starting with four general areas first and then I’ll share specific stores I adore. There are a couple of areas where there are interesting streets that are nice to walk with clusters of fun stores.
Strøget
THE shopping street. In every city in Denmark, there is a walking shopping street called a gågade (literal translation “walk street”) and Strøget is not only the longest walking street in Denmark, but in all of Europe. The section I’ve shown is my favorite part but there’s so much to see. The only downside to Strøget is that it is touristy and so there are a lot of mainstream stores like Zara and H&M. And I wouldn’t buy any food on Strøget besides a hot dog. It will be overpriced and the best food can be found down one of the side streets. Hint: Andersen and Maillard.
Gothersgade→ Store Regngade → Sværtgade
A little row of streets that runs nearly parallel to Støget, just a little North. I don’t know what it is, but love this row. I’m very particular and love to start at Lubarol and work my way through. Great stores and a lot of streets with those cool coffee shops/bars with little patio tables in the sun.
Nyhavn
When you google “Copenhagen”, this is what you’ll see pictures of. The beautiful street with all the colored houses along the canal. I love walking along Nyhavn. It’s gorgeous, especially in the summertime/fall. Again, wouldn't recommend getting any food here besides a hot dog. But I really enjoy walking around the side streets off of Nyhavn. Fun stores, good vibe.
Nørrebrogade
If you want to experience a less touristy area of Copenhagen you should check out Nørrebro. I walked up and down Nørrebrogade from the lakes a few times and there are some really cool stores, especially vintage, on this street.
Vintage/thrifting:
Wilen $-$$ They have two locations and each has fantastic vintage picks. I would describe the styles they curate as generally being y2k. But they have some different stuff too.
OSV secondhand $-$$ I really liked their selection and the store design. Simple and good.
Time’s Up Vintage $$ Gorgeous luxury secondhand.
Magnolia $−$$$ High-end/luxury consignment.
Brands:
Skall $$-$$$ Beautiful clothes especially dresses. Very flowy and minimalist, has a heritage feel.
Aiayu $-$$$$ Is best known for their knits, and also their cute and popular makeup bags.
Saks Potts- I just found out they closed. Keeping them on the list for their memory! RIP Saks Potts.
Ganni $$$ Ganni has gotten big in the US thanks to Juliana Salazar, but it is a Danish brand, and cool to visit the flagship store!
American Vintage $-$$$ Not actually vintage, but inspired by a lot of vintage American silhouettes and textiles.
Af Agger $$-$$$$ Coat of my dreams is from here.
A.P.C. $$$-$$$$ Obsessed with their shoes especially.
Meotine $$-$$$ Really cute jackets and trench coats. Have a trench coat from here and it’s fantastic quality.
Boii $-$$ Fun local label that has a bit of everything, but I really love their loungewear.
Arket $-$$ is a Swedish Brand with clothes and home goods. Great quality stuff, has a nice store on Strøget, I feel like I always see great stuff there.
Georg Jensen $$-$$$$ Iconic Danish jewelry brand.
Colorful Standard $ Quality basics.
Mads Nørregaard $-$$$ if you’re shopping in Copenhagen you’re going to need to stop to pay homage at Mads Nørregaard. Their long-sleeved striped tees are synonymous with Copenhagen's cool girls.
Boutiques:
Karrusella $-$$ Children’s store, really darling selection. Fun to look even if you don’t have kids.
Lubarol $-$$$$ Love their curation.
Lou Shop $-$$ Darling cottagecore home goods with a little clothing.
STRØM $$−$$$ This store is in Hellerup, nearby to the insta famous Atelier September- which I have to add is just as good as everyone says it is.
Storm Fashion Art Design $-$$$ more modern/hip-hop vibe. Really cool selection of art books, t-shirts, jewelry and sunglasses.
Naked $$ Shoes!
Home goods+ more:
Posterland $-$$ Cool selection of vintage and contemporary posters.
Hay $-$$$ Hay has everything from cute toothbrushes to custom furniture. During my last visit to CPH I got bowls from there and I love them.
Le Lebo $-$$ The best scents. I know we have this in the US but I just love to see different locations and this one is good, right off of Nyhavn. Always worth a visit.
Jacobsen Plus $$ I love their selection of homewares. Lots of cool and modern Danish design. I wanted to buy all of the bowls and plates they had last time I was there.
Royal Copenhagen $$−$$$$ Copenhagen’s Royal China. Cool to stop by and see, it has such a rich heritage. You can get it shipped to the US but it is significantly cheaper if you buy it in Denmark.
Søstrene Grene $ Inexpensive but beautiful stationery/home goods/kitchenware/gifts.
Muji $ Famous for its pens and stationery but also great homewares, clothes, and they even have a little cafe- I tried the mochi and I’d give it 5 stars.
There are too many antique stores to list them all, but there are incredible homeware stores with vintage/antique silver, Royal Copenhagen, and interesting treasures.
Department stores:
Both Illum and Magasin are like Nordstrom, but better stocked and make it Scandi.
Illums Bolighus- $-$$$
Magasin- $-$$$
Shopping in Copenhagen is great because it’s not just about buying, it’s about the experience. It’s truly a special city, one that has stolen my and many other’s hearts.
xx
Addi
I quickly learned that being 5'5" (165 cm) and 61 kg, I CANNOT shop in Copenhagen.
Wow I love this so much! It’s so detailed and curated! I really like how you did a street by street guide and which store to hit up, the prices and brands you’ll find there. I’ve been to many of these places for my shopping and you really hit many of these top places in my list that I share with people! 🥰
